Lake stakeholders have come to realize that they must become engaged in policy advocacy in Annapolis. The State of Maryland owns Deep Creek Lake and 15 other aging, man-made lakes elsewhere in the state. There are also other issues of interest to lake property owners, include whether to permit fracking or pass a ban.
Here is a Tool Kit which will help you become an effective advocate– it covers the big picture addressing the role for those not living in the state, how to prepare for effective communication with a member of the General Assembly and specific tips on writing letters and to whom to send and when. The State Lakes Protection and Restoration Bill hearing on February 14, 2017. This is also the same Committee which will hear bill/s on fracking.
Now is the time to act to ensure our wonderful but aging lake receives the funds to implement necessary programs and restoration projects.
