As you return to DCL, your help is needed.
1. Report any limbs or logs in the lake to DNR. Call (301) 387-4111 if you see any flotsam in the lake. While some debris is normal, Sandy felled many trees and limbs. As the water rises with the rains, the debris is being found floating or partially sunken in all sections of the lake.Do exercise caution while boating.
2. Report location of nesting Canada Geese. DNR Wildlife Management has undertaken a major effort to reduce the population of invasive resident Canada Geese, estimated to be 600 birds. The geese are nesting now and DNR staff have been “addling” the eggs in the nests they can find. Addling, or coating the geese eggs with oil starves the embryo from oxygen and kills the bird. Geese are fooled by addling and will continue to sit on them. If you take the eggs away, they will just lay another brood.
DNR needs help to find as many of these geese as possible. Please let Friends of DCL know where you see the geese so we can pass this along.
